Combination Tailgate

BRIEF

Securifab were approached by a Haulage firm who transport a variety of cargo in their tipper trucks. A conventional top hinged tailgate works well on loose aggregates however large, bulky cargo such as concrete blocks and steel, often cause damage when they slide and impact the door. A unique design was required to remove the potential for vehicle damage and to be multifunctional without costing time on the job.

DESIGN

Our design team used both 2D and 3D CAD software to design a robust solution which could be easily adapted for the type of cargo being transported. Our finished design was submitted to the client for approval before being sent to our profiling company who cut all flat and hollow section parts on state of the art fiber laser machines.

OUTCOME

Our Skilled fabricators assembled the design. Bespoke hinges and pivot pins were machined from En8 steel with integrated grease channels and Oilite bushings. Coded welders used both TIG and MIG welding processes with high strength e81T flux core used on high stress areas. The Vehicle was then brought to our workshop where our team installed the new combination doors and modified existing Air lock system to operate correctly. We have had 100% positive feedback from the design and the client has since had a further two sets fitted to other vehicles.
